The Home Conservatory : Making the Most of Your Sunroom
Oh what a gift it would be if all homes included a sunroom! Depending on the climate you live in, a sunroom could be a better investment than landscaping. Tending to houseplants can be much easier than outdoor plants, and given the proper location of a sunroom, you are able to grow beautiful plants and immerse yourself in nature despite weather. If you've been blessed with one of these coveted spaces, please don’t neglect the beauty that they offer.
A sunroom has simple, traditional elements. Only a few staples are needed to make it the most cherished space in your home.
Furniture
The classic English conservatory would have light-weight furniture; mimicking the outdoor elements; wicker chairs and tables. The modern conservatory or sunroom can have traditional furniture or whatever best suits your style.
Keep in mind that this type of space is intended to bring you closer to the outdoors and encourage rest.
Flooring
Commonly you will find tile or wood in these spaces as opposed to carpet. Choosing something unique like terra cotta tile or the classic beechwood tones for a wood floor would be lovely. Whether you're going for the English Garden, the Beach Cottage, or the Bohemian Lounge aesthetic, beautiful floors that flow with your style choice will create cohesiveness.
Laminate flooring can be a cost-effective way to update your sunroom, and it doesn't have to match the flooring in the rest of your home.
Textiles + Plants
A statement rug, or several work well in a sunroom. A rug that dangles tassels or has a unique pattern would be lovely as well. Add elements that make your space restful, cozy, and natural. If you're hesitant about plants, a sunroom is the best places to develop your green thumb. Find a few "high light" plants at your local nursery and see how they do.
The sunroom is its own space, it can be a little more funky, edgy, and non-traditional. Fill it with your favorite plants and keep your windows clear from furniture as much as possible. Put your feet up, and breathe!
